Aims and Objectives
Of
Medical Library Association of Pakistan (MELAP)

 

1. Continuing Education Forum: It is step in this direction of self-help basis.

We learn from each other’s experiences.

2. Resource Sharing: It is very important in a developing country like Pakistan to use and share cost effectively what we have with each other. Union list of serials holdings in ten libraries of Karachi was compiled initially. It is being enhanced can develop in other areas as well (training, technical know-how etc).

3. Current Awareness: Good forum for updating ourselves with the latest professional knowledge and developments and check/develop our reading habits.

4. Writing and Speaking Forum: It is good place to develop our communication skills; provides an opportunity for grooming professionally and improve presentation skills before facing the larger audience.

5. Exchange View: This affords a chance to share individual library problems with friends and colleagues to seek advice through collective wisdom.

6. Social Aspect: This provides an opportunity to develop contacts, make friends with fellow professionals and thrash out personal / professional matters in the larger interest of the profession. Collectivity, voice is heard more carefully.

Future plans of MELAP include developing basic standards for medical libraries in Pakistan, developing core lists of books, journals, online source suitable for local conditions and needs, and most of all developing leadership skills and qualities among the information professionals/librarians and getting then recognized within the institutions they serve.
